Victorian homes tell a unique story.
The one-of-a-kind architecture sets them apart from the rest on the block. Many people visualize a ‘dollhouse’ or bright colors when envisioning a commonly seen Victorian. Lifestyle blogger Erin Hiemstra of Apartment34 succeeded in combining the two by taking her Victorian home to a fresh, never before seen level.
Victorians have certainly evolved since the reign of Queen Victoria in the 1800s, but her philosophy in which fashion, architecture and furnishings should be beautiful rather than practical remains the same today.
Over the past few years, Apartment34 has been intriguingly dedicated to the renovation and design plans of the home. Unlike many Victorians, Erin’s dream home is not a complicated asymmetrical estate. It stands simple and charming. She decided on the perfect choice of pale pink for a clean, refreshing look.
The renovation took years, but has made a significant transformation.
The home hadn’t been updated since the 70’s, but if you look closely, the 14-foot ceilings and authentic crown moldings are priceless. The potential was inevitable.
Erin has maintained simplistic and elegant furniture pieces throughout. Inside, a world of timeless modern furniture and designs juxtapose the historic nature of the home. Windows are large and bring in tons of natural light.
